What is accessibility (a11y)?

The goal of a11y is to promote inclusion and equal access for all individuals, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, thereby enabling everyone to participate fully in society and have equal opportunities.
“The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect,"

said Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web (WAI IPO, 1997) .

What is not accessibility?

A11y begins with the design of products and requires ongoing monitoring after implementation, emphasizing the creation of inclusive environments and services rather than solely accommodating individuals with special needs or relying on accessibility overlays.

What are the legal requirements?

In Europe, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and in the USA, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) aim to enhance the global accessibility of digital products, ensuring they meet elevated standards, are marketable, and accessible to individuals with various disabilities.

Is there a deadline for a11y conversion?

Beginning June 28, 2025: accessibility compliance will be anticipated in Europe as well.
While the USA has been enforcing the ADA for decades, Europe is set to introduce the EAA on June 28, 2025. Following this date, inaccessible digital products may encounter significant legal repercussions in Europe, mirroring the longstanding consequences already established in many developed countries around the world.

Comprehensive audits

Having ten years of expertise, we excel in auditing websites through the Website Accessibility Conformance Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM), which gauges a website's alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). This methodology selectively examines a well-defined representative sample of web pages and functionality from a website, effectively identifying the majority of issues.

WCAG

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), also known as ISO/IEC 40500, represent globally recognized standards aimed at enhancing a11y for individuals with disabilities. Comprising three levels of success criteria but middle level (AA) is preferred for robust accessibility. Currently, we adhere to WCAG version 2.2, which offers enhanced guidance for users with cognitive or learning disabilities, low vision, and mobile disabilities.

EN 301 549

EN 301 549 is anticipated to serve as the applicable standard for European industry, aligning with WCAG and employing the same structure for web, non-web documents, and non-web software. EN 301 549 includes three levels of conformance, with the middle level (Level AA) being mandatory. The European Accessibility Act, which is expected to incorporate it, is set to take effect on June 28, 2025.
